Mortuary coats – which should you choose?

A mortuary coat should give you maximum protection and feel comfortable to wear while offering a lasting quality. In our shop, among other products, you will find mortuary coats by Sunrise Uniforms, for both men and women. The coats offered by this renowned brand have been carefully designed to protect your clothes underneath and give you a sense of safety and comfort as you perform all the precise movements. When shopping for a mortuary coat, pay attention to the fabric composition. Ideally, the coat should be made of 100% breathable cotton, comfortable to wear and tear-resistant. Practical details are of importance here as well: a high stand-up collar, elastic sleeve cuffs, and capacious pockets where you can put whatever you need to have at hand.

Where can you buy a mortuary coat?

Our online store offers a wide range of medical clothing, including top-quality mortuary coats. You can choose from men’s and women’s lab coats by Sunrise Uniforms, which are very popular among experienced professionals as well as students of medicine. Sizes from S to XL are available, so you can easily find a garment that fits you best. We sell only original branded mortuary coats, made of certified fabrics that remain in great shape even after multiple machine washings.

What is the difference between a mortuary coat and a regular lab coat?

A mortuary coat is normally designed to guarantee maximum protection from staining with body secretions, which is an inevitable part of performing a post-mortem or surgery. This is also a great choice for you if you work in an anatomical pathology laboratory. A mortuary coat is usually longer than a regular lab coat (knee length is very common). What is more, a mortuary coat often has a stand-up collar to protect your neck, and elastic cuffs to keep the sleeves in place and to prevent any liquids from getting under the fabric. Standard lab coats are generally shorter and have looser sleeve cuffs.

Will a mortuary coat protect you from your patient’s body fluids, such as blood, and from chemicals?

Men’s and women’s mortuary coats are usually made of natural fabrics (e.g. high-quality cotton), which can effectively protect you from dry stains and – to a certain extent – from liquid stains. However, they are not waterproof or chemically resistant, unlike lab coats made of synthetic fabrics. Cotton can successfully protect your personal clothes from staining, and it is easy to wash. Nevertheless, if you run a risk of coming into contact with contagious liquids, blood, or chemicals, you need additional specialist impermeable protection (e.g. a plastic lab coat).

How to properly clean and disinfect a mortuary coat or a lab coat?

If you take proper care of your mortuary coat, it will stay in good condition even after intense use. Our coats are made of durable cotton, so they can be washed at high temperatures (60°C–90°C). Make sure to always follow the washing guidelines (you will find them on your coat’s tag or label). Wash your mortuary coat separately from your daily clothing. Use professional detergents that contain disinfecting substances. Regularly check your mortuary coat for damage, as any defect can impair its protective function.
